Corporations Are People

Corporations Are People

[Instant update: Madam Speaker, The President of the United States.” January 27, 2010, 6:06 pm, Washington, DC, 38N53, 77W02, Ascendant, 17 Leo.

Tonight President Obama will deliver his first State of the Union Address to the nation. MSNBC is casting this as “Obama’s test: Win back a nation’s confidence
Missteps and poor timing have cast doubt on America’s ‘hologram of hope'”

The president’s speech, set for 9:00 PM tonight, will be given against a backdrop of recession, 17% unemployment (if you count those who have given up the job hunt), a failing health care reform bill, the Haiti earthquake, American food banks running on empty, bank bailouts but no “people” bailouts, and the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Citizens v. FEC granting corporations equal status with individual human beings.

Now businesses — and could this mean multinational corporations too — can pump as much money as they want into our elections. Are there any boundaries protecting Americans from the vast ocean of cash corporations can now pour into the system (porous-boundaries Neptune in mutual reception with politically-radical Uranus).

Gone is the notion of “one man, one vote.” Money is given equal status with human speech via the Court’s majority interpretation of the First Amendment of the Constitution. “In God We Trust” is printed on our currency. It goes without saying (although I must!) that money is America’s true god. We make art about it. We erect statues to it.

Our validity as people is attached to “what do you do?” One’s job makes one legitimate. That disclosure tells the questioner where you rank on the socio-economic scale. Where we fall on that grid determines our social “value.” Sadly, we sometimes get confused and undervalue ourselves.

Americans pay a lot of lip service to the importance of holding fast to core values encompassing family, friends, meaningful work, spirituality and charity. Unfortunately, we are shown the opposite of these values continually via corrupt politics, scandal and hypocrisy, courtesy of the 24/7 news cycle.

A case in point: Elizabeth Edwards is separating from her husband John claiming she can’t take it anymore. She wants her life back. John Edwards, as you remember, ran for president in 2008. His wife Elizabeth has suffered a resurgence of cancer and learned of her husband’s affair and that he fathered a child with his mistress while on the campaign trail. Edwards was called “the real deal” by those who supported him. Now he’s seen as “the raw deal.”

It is hard to find much to cheer about as we celebrate a new president’s first year in office — a man who has made history by being the first African American to be elected to the highest office in our land. We await his first report on the health of our country with anxiety.

But that in and of itself is not the subject of this blog. I want to focus on one of January’s most shattering events — an event that will define or redefine our democratic republic for decades to come — the Supreme Court’s majority ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Committee.

In the interest of keeping blog content shorter (this is a big work), I’m going to redirect you to my main website’s NEWSMAKERS section so that you can read the article (and view the charts) in it’s entirety.

Egypt announces find of ancient cat goddess temple

Egypt announces find of ancient cat goddess temple
By HAMZA HENDAWI, Associated Press Writer Hamza Hendawi, Associated Press Writer Tue Jan 19, 10:01 am ET

CAIRO – Archaeologists have unearthed a 2,000-year-old temple that may have been dedicated to the ancient Egyptian cat goddess, Bastet, the Supreme Council of Antiquities said Tuesday.

The ruins of the Ptolemaic-era temple were discovered by Egyptian archaeologists in the heart of the Mediterranean port city of Alexandria, founded by Alexander the Great in the 4th century B.C.

The city was the seat of the Greek-speaking Ptolemaic Dynasty, which ruled over Egypt for 300 years until the suicide of Queen Cleopatra.

The statement said the temple was thought to belong to Queen Berenice, wife of King Ptolemy III who ruled Egypt in the 3rd century B.C.

Mohammed Abdel-Maqsood, the Egyptian archaeologist who led the excavation team, said the discovery may be the first trace of the long-sought location of Alexandria’s royal quarter.

The large number of statues depicting Bastet found in the ruins, he said, suggested that this may be the first Ptolemaic-era temple dedicated to the cat goddess to be discovered in Alexandria.

This would indicate that the worship of the ancient Egyptian cat-goddess continued during the later, Greek-influenced, Ptolemaic period, he said.

Statues of other ancient Egyptian deities were also found in the ruins, he added.

Zahi Hawass, Egypt’s chief archaeologist, said the temple may have been used in later times as a quarry as evidenced by the large number of missing stone blocks.

Modern Alexandria was built squarely on top of the ruins of the classical-era city and many of its great temples, palaces and libraries remain undiscovered.

The temple was found in the Kom el-Dekkah neighborhood near the city’s main train station and home to a Roman-era amphitheater and well preserved mosaics. Yahoo News

Port-au-Prince, Haiti (CNN) — “International aid groups were feverishly trying to get supplies into quake-ravaged Haiti on Thursday to prevent the situation from going from ‘dire to absolutely catastrophic.'”

“Hospitals in Port-au-Prince have collapsed, and the few facilities still open can’t handle the needs of the injured. The United States and other countries were dispatching medical supplies, facilities and personnel. People who suffered broken bones from falling debris have been unable to get treatment; there’s simply too many of them.”

Astro-Commentary

The earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12 was the third in a series of warning quakes across the western world that began during the shadow days leading up to tonight’s Solar Eclipse.

On January 9 there was a 6.5 magnitude quake in Eureka, California followed by a 4.3 quake in Riverside, most likely an aftermath event of the Eureka temblor.

January 17, 2010 marks the 16th anniversary of the California Northridge quake designated a magnitude of 6.7 but the “ground acceleration was one of the highest ever instrumentally recorded in an urban area in North America.”

I survived the Northridge quake and can testify to the terror of such an event.

What makes the Haiti quake all the more tragic is the country’s poverty, misery, poorly organized government, lack of resources and crumbling infrastructure. To those who would say that government is the enemy and that spending money on infrastructure is a waste hasn’t survived a disaster.

The aforementioned quake charts, including Haiti’s, are packed with planets in the cardinal earth sign Capricorn. Our Solar Eclipse at 25 Capricorn is the messenger. Saturn is ruler of the earth’s crust and the tectonic plates our cities and nations float upon.

Saturn, now stationing for its 4 month retrograde in Libra is strengthened by the slow-down and still is in square to Pluto in Capricorn. Pluto is the force that erodes, undermines, erases and transforms. Saturn is the structure and infrastructure upon which a nation, a city, a government or a people rest and depend.

A terrible irony of this earthquake is the crumbling of the presidential palace. The people of Haiti don’t even have an intact symbol of their country’s leader. Last night I attempted to visualize what it would be like to see the White House crumble. It seemed in my vision like our nation’s history and the focus of our national identity disintegrated.

What louder message to send planet earth about the transitoriness of fragile physical life than to “shake it up” at eclipse time with earthquakes?

The country of Haiti (see charts above) is experiencing its 7th Saturn return. Its independence was hard won after centuries of being plundered for goods and slaves commencing with Christopher Columbus in 1492. Haiti is also in line for another Venus Return. Its Venus at 29 Capricorn is in mutual reception (two planets trading houses of rulership) with its natal Saturn — the same celestial pattern we’re experiencing right now by current transit.

Haiti’s natal (and transiting) Saturn squares its Mars at 3 Capricorn and Chiron at 4 Capricorn. Transiting Pluto is conjoined to the Mars-Chiron conjunction. This harsh mix reveals that no matter what the event, physical or political, this beleaguered nation has a planetary set up that spells devastation.

As stated earlier, we don’t have a birth time for Haiti de jure Independence, so its hard to know if its pristine Virgo Moon opposes its eradicating Pluto in watery Pisces. We at least know that transiting Saturn, associated with cutting off or limiting supply, contacted Haiti’s Moon at some point during the last 2 1/2 years.

So, depending on the Moon’s degree and Saturn’s retrograde patterns and its transiting oppositions with disrupting Uranus in Pisces), its likely that Haiti’s Moon was hit at least 3 times by Saturn’s transit and Pluto was opposed once. Saturn to natal Moon bespeaks food shortages; malnourishment; deprivation; scarcity; lack; hunger; and stomach disorders. We know that in the last few years the Haitian people have experienced increased famine.

Another outstanding planet relationship in Haiti’s chart is the mutual reception between Pluto in sacrificial Pisces and Neptune in underworld Scorpio. This rulership exchange brings us into benthic waters (absolute depths) whether they be spiritual or historic in nature.

Haiti’s scorpionic Neptune is in a challenging square with transiting Neptune, Chiron and Jupiter in the common people’s sign of Aquarius. Fixed signs in challenging aspect give way or crack apart at some point when when other planet stressors set them off. Jupiter’s job is to expand; push limits; exceed boundaries and in the build-up to Haiti’s natal Neptune, perhaps the slip fault 6 miles deep finally gave way.

In the hours leading up to the earthquake, the transiting Moon at 26 Sagittarius — Galactic Center! — squared natal Pluto setting off a possible T-square if Haiti’s Virgo Moon is close in orb. Transiting Moon was at the Pluto square January 11th at 1:53 am.

Earlier I mentioned Haiti’s natal Saturn and its 7th Saturn return in square to transiting Pluto. As Saturn moves through its cycle in Libra it will square Haiti’s Sun in 2010 and Pluto will conjoin Haiti’s Sun in 2013. Disruptive Uranus’s move into Aries will create a cardinal grand square in Haiti’s horoscope. The nation is called to rebuild itself but it cannot do so without massive international intervention.

The Haiti earthquake is a stark reminder of the millions around the world who are forced to live and endure like conditions day after day, life after life. Let us hope that in these early years of the Third Millennium that human beings will begin making that next evolutionary step in consciousness that will allow for poverty and illness to be wiped from the face of the earth.

Adulmutallab, The Underpants Bomber

Bookmark and Share

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab (“UFA”) is a 23-year-old Nigerian who attempted to detonate explosives he’d secreted in his underwear on Northwest Airlines Flight 253 on December 25, 2009.

Flight 253 is a regular passenger flight shuttling between Amsterdam and Detroit every week. The flight generally leaves Amsterdam at 11:40 am local time and arrives at approximately noon local time in Detroit.

On Christmas Day, this Northwest Airlines stole the spotlight from Santa Claus to become known as the carrier who brought the Underpants Bomber to America.

PETN (Pentaerythritol tetranitrate) is one of the most powerful high explosives known. “It is more difficult to detonate than primary explosives, so dropping or igniting it will typically not cause an explosion . . .” so the 258 passengers (some of whom bravely went up against the bomber) were spared an unthinkable fate.

December 22, 1986, 12:00 PM (CET-1), Lagos, Nigeria (no birth time known – click image for larger view)

UFA’s horoscope reveals several easily identifiable triggers for violence; the kind most commonly associated with the psychology of the true believer that relies on the philosophy of the ends justifies the means.

His Mars-Jupiter conjunction in Pisces translates to extreme (Jupiter aggressive (Mars) expression of belief (Pisces). Both planets square erratic Uranus in theological/doctrinaire Sagittarius. Religious law Saturn and letter of the law Mercury in Sagittarius further enhance the aforementioned incendiary setup also in square to UFA’s natal Mars-Jupiter conjunction.

UFA’s Sun at 0 Capricorn conjoined to mystical Neptune reveals that by the time of December 22nd’s Winter Solstice (and his Solar Return), UFA was under significant pressure from transiting Pluto’s conjunction to his Sun in square to transiting Saturn in Libra. Saturn and Pluto in stress aspect are the two roughest energies fragile humans are called to confront and contain. Without a good support system and grounding in a friendly reality, these hard energies can result in destructive reactions.

UFA has been aligned with the “new” Osama bin Laden located in Yemen, the U.S. born Anwar Al-Awlaki. (April 22, 1971, Las Cruces, New Mexico. No birth time known).

Al-Awlaki “is a Muslim lecturer, spiritual leader, and former imam who has been accused of being a senior talent recruiter and motivator “for al-Qaeda and all of its franchises,” . . . Full BIO here.

Al-Awlaki has the distinction of being well educated. “Al-Awlaki returned to Colorado in 1991 to attend college, and holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University (1994), which he attended on a foreign student visa and Yemeni government scholarship, and an M.A. in Education Leadership from San Diego State University; he also worked on a Doctorate degree in Human Resource Development at George Washington University Graduate School of Education & Human Development from January to December 2001.[4][17][19][20][21][22] His Islamic education consists of a few intermittent months with various scholars, and reading works by several prominent Islamic scholars.”

Al-Awlaki’s Jupiter conjunct Neptune in Sagittarius reiterates the same mystical “true belief” themes displayed in UFA’s chart. Al-Awlaki also has an exalted Venus at 28 Pisces (recently square by transiting Pluto at the end of his tenure in Sagittarius). Without a birth time we don’t know the degree of his Moon in Pisces, but I suspect that it is most likely in opposition to UAF’s Virgo Moon (again no birth time prevents us from knowing UFA’s Moon degree).

If UFA’s Moon is anywhere from 16 Virgo to about 20 Virgo, he has the lunar opposition to his natal Mars-Jupiter conjunction. That would set up a T-square to his Saturn, Mercury and Uranus in Sagittarius. Al-Awlaki’s Moon in Pisces, if within range of 16 to 20 degrees, would feed into UFA’s t-Square serving as support for UFA’s already unstable Mercury-Uranus square Mars configuration.

Republic of Yemen, May 22, 1990, 0:00 am BAT -3:00, Sanaa, Yemen. Asc. 22 Aquarius. (Click image for larger view)

The unholy mix of UFA and Al-Awlaki with the Republic of Yemen chart is one scary brew. Yemen’s Ascendant at 22 Aquarius takes the full weight of a long Neptune transit, Jupiter is there and so is wounding/wounded Chiron. Neptune’s 7 year mutual reception with Uranus in Pisces supercharges Yemen’s Mars at 23 Pisces, the position of transiting Uranus!

Yemen is described as being a police state and is a rather closed system. Not many people visit the country so there aren’t many cross-cultural release mechanisms. The population is distressed by poverty, high unemployment and many are strongly supportive of Islamic extremism. The combined Republic (created from what was once South and North Yemen) is only 4 years younger than is UFA!

Yemen’s Midheaven at 0 Sagittarius takes on the full projection — and sends its own out — to both UFA and Al-Awlaki through their Pisces, Virgo and Sagittarius cross-chart planetary sets.

Both UFA and Yemen are of the Pluto in Scorpio generation. Yemen has a grand water trine comprised of fight-for and-against-a-cause Mars in Pisces, Jupiter exalted in love of homeland Cancer and submersion into underworld Pluto in Scorpio.

These immersions into feeling are harder for UFA to bear because his chart has no air in it. Hence, it becomes nearly impossible for UFA to mobilize the rational (intellectual) component of his psyche that is lying dormant.

UFA would need to compensate for the lack of the air element by aligning himself with a thinking type who could help him develop this aspect of his consciousness.

UFA can recite much of the Koran by heart, but recitation is not necessarily an indication of mental comprehension. UFA’s chart shows him to be gifted artistically and deeply intuitive, but without steady guidance provided by a well-grounded personality, he wouldn’t be able to cope in the wider world.

Mars in square to Uranus is also an aspect of sexual excitation. With Jupiter conjoined to UFA’s Mars, one can only imagine what this devoted Islamist practicing celibacy must have been trying to endure.

Mars-Uranus results in nervous irritability but with his Venus conjoined to Pluto in Scorpio, one would have to assume that UFA is an erotic, passionate, sensual young man struggling against his natural instincts. Perhaps he tried compensating by recruiting his Virgo Moon to act as “chastity police.”

The beleaguered Moon by herself is unable to withstand the strength of Mars conjunct Jupiter in square to Uranus and Venus conjunct engulfing Pluto.

UFA struggled hard to sublimate his intense sexual desire into the sacrificial passion of the true believer. Such extremes and violence against the laws of one’s being are destined to fail.

Carl Jung Quote

Happy New Year 2010

“The collective unconscious appears to consist of mythological motifs or primordial images, for which reason the myths of all nations are its real exponents. In fact the whole of mythology could be taken as a sort of projection of the collective unconscious. We can see this most clearly if we look at the heavenly constellations, whose originally chaotic forms are organized through the projection of images. This explains the influence of the stars as asserted by astrologers. These influences are nothing but unconscious instrospective perceptions of the collective unconscious.” — from Jung’s lecture “The Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious,” Collected Works.

Karl Rove, Bush’s Brain, Get’s Second Divorce

Karl Rove, Bush’s Brain, Get’s Second Divorce

Traditional marriage advocate and self-styled political twin of Machiavelli (3 May 1469 – 21 June 1527) Karl Rove, divorced his second wife of 24 years, Darby, in a Texas court. The split was finalized over Christmas week.

The couple wed in January 1986. They have one son. Rove’s 600 page memoir, “Courage and Consequence: My Life as a Conservative in the Fight,” is set for release in March 2010. We can hardly wait.

Karl Rove, December 25, 1950, Denver, Colorado. NO TIME KNOWN. [Click chart for larger view].

1. The divorce planet Uranus transiting at 22-23 degrees of Pisces conjoins Rove’s North Node. His natal Uranus is posited at 7 Cancer in opposition to his Sun, Venus and in square to his natal Saturn. The transit of Uranus through Pisces and aligning with his lunar nodes fulfills the natal chart promise of disruptions and separations in personal relationship. Rove’s biography includes the following:

1. His biological father left the family when Rove and his older brother were children and 2. In December 1969, the man Rove had known as his father left the family, and divorced Rove’s mother soon afterward; it later became known he was homosexual.[6][7] After his parents’ divorce, Rove learned from his aunt and uncle that the man who had raised him was not his biological father; both he and his older brother Eric were the children of another man. Rove has expressed great love and admiration for his adoptive father and for “how selfless” his love had been.[8] In 1981 Rove’s mother committed suicide in Reno, Nevada.” Wikipedia.

2. Rove’s Sun is conjoined by life transforming Pluto. By life transforming, I’m talking about irrevocable changes such as the death of a relationship which, as anyone can tell you who has grieved the loss of a love, it feels like — and is — a form of death.

3. Rove’s Sun squares transiting Saturn in Libra. The scythe carrying grim reaper prunes away relationships of all kinds that no longer serve the life regardless of our attempts to hold on. The square aspect between Saturn and Pluto is a pitched battle for power. We know Rove’s penchant for dirty tricks and ability to dismantle the lives of political opponents, but in the case of Rove’s divorce, he is confronting Pluto’s power to undermine the stablity and structure (Saturn) of one’s security. In this case, a long marriage.

4. Rove is now 60 years old. He’s experiencing his second Saturn Return (2 Libra) in square to natal Sun and transiting Pluto. This Saturn Return is brutal. He’s also in line to have his 5th Jupiter Return (3 Pisces) around January 31, 2010.

5. For asteroid fans, Juno of marriage (political and otherwise) at 22 Scorpio is in square to Rove’s natal Pluto at 19 Leo. Mars (now retrograde) stationed on his natal Pluto on December 20, 2009, the week his divorce was made final. Mars on Pluto in square to Juno: cutting ties forever. It is of interest to note that Rove’s Juno at 22 Scorpio is in the degree of his lunar nodes and trines his North Node. The nodal connection indicates his desire for lasting marriage but the transit of Uranus in opposition to his South Node triggers the separations he seems fated to experience.

6. Rove’s first marriage, to Houston socialite Valerie Wainwright in 1976 ended after a short three years. Rove’s busy schedule kept him away from home so often that he had no time to invest in the relationship. Wainwright filed for divorce in 1979. Two years after that, Rove’s mother committed suicide. His mother’s death wasn’t a result of Rove’s divorce. Pluto was transiting Libra (changing the entire landscape of relationships for a generation) and in conjunction with his natal Neptune of dissolutions; Rove is experiencing a nodal reversal (Transiting North Node conjoined to natal South Node and vice versa); and a transit of Saturn to his South Node. All of the foregoing heavy planet transits triggered off the natal potential for separations and dissolutions.

Regardless of what we may think of the manner in which Karl Rove has directed his natal chart talents and abilities, his current status as a two time divorced man coupled with political hypocrisy and irrevocable damage to others’ lives and careers, makes a look at his horoscope instructive. Each of us has a choice to transform the shocks and disappointments of conditioned life on earth into words and deeds that redeem and serve.

A Machiavellian response to life’s bitter blows is but one option. Power is oftentimes a first tier compensation for those who feel insecure (Sun square Saturn in Rove’s case and in the case of the USA). However, power misused backfires. Nemesis visits those who take by force from others what they lack in themselves.

Rove’s progressed Chiron is at 1 Capricorn. The backlash of misused power was set in time for Rove when Pluto initially conjoined his progressed Chiron by transit. The square his progressed Chiron is set to make to his natal Saturn will perfect in 2026, after the USA’s dramatic Pluto Return. It is reasonable to conclude that Karl Rove’s ability to maneuver in power circles is being undermined by the very power planets themselves — Pluto and Saturn. Chiron is the wound. Rove has been a great one for inflicting suffering on others. Now his chickens come home to roost.

Put Kepler on Your Solstice Gift List!

Special note from my friend and colleague, Karen McCauley:

Dear Friends of Astrology:

We have, in the past, agreed that the inclusion of astrological studies in academia is a necessary condition in validating, legitimizing, and maintaining our diverse profession.

As many of you know, for four years I have served on the Kepler College faculty. While it’s an honor and joy to teach there, it’s also provided me with an opportunity to give back to the astrological community I dearly love. As a retiree since 1995 and on a fixed income, my previous financial support of Kepler was limited. In volunteering my teaching, I have finally been able to more substantially support the Kepler experience.

Unfortunately, during the past four years, Kepler’s support from others in the astrological community has dwindled. The only “professional” organization that has made a contribution ($360) in 2009 was the Oregon Astrological Association. (Thanks to the OAA!) Not one other local, state, national or international group has made a donation in 2009 though several have given scholarships to activities benefiting their own organizations.

Kepler’s professors and staff earn less than 50% of normal college personnel salaries and several have donated major amounts of their services to the college. Kepler has only a very part-time office staff. Our president, Enid Newberg, has made heroic efforts to cover for the staff reductions and has been putting in an enormous amount of extra and unpaid time in doing so this year. Kepler tuition has remained reasonable ($170 per unit) considering that there are minimal scholarships to help our students, most of whom are now attending Kepler only part-time.

Fostering Kepler’s continued existence and growth is integral to our community’s cultural status. The poor economy has affected us all, but even so I’ll bet each of us can spare five or ten dollars for donations to Kepler a few times per year. Those dollars add up to cover the $7000 monthly overhead at Kepler.

Please consider making a donation to Kepler this month. Any donation is tax deductible and will help Kepler keep its doors open for current and future students. You can send a check or money order to Kepler at 4630 200th Street SW, Ste P, Lynnwood, WA 98036. Or, you can call 425-673-4292 and make a donation over the phone using your debit or credit card.

Blessings to you all this holiday season,
Karen (McCauley)

It’s Never Easy

September 3, 2009

From my dad’s friend Bob – please feel free to distribute to all your friends.

froben

Friends,   This Obama health plan will be hailed as one of the greatest political feats in American history.  It must be nurtured. Please send this letter to your local newspaper and to all your friends.  Tell your Member of Congress we need health care reform because the insurance companies are draining the life out of America.    It will not be easy.  Take a look at history.

Editor, Sept 2, 2009

The giants in America took on the big tasks and made America better.

Thomas Jefferson took advantage of Napoleon Bonaparte’s financial problems to buy the Louisiana Territory for a pittance. It was not easy.

It took DeWitt Clinton and friends many years to persuade the US government to build the Erie Canal.  It was not easy.

Theodore Judah, with help from Abraham Lincoln, helped create the Transcontinental Railroad.  Definitely not an easy task.

Justin Morrill was a school dropout, yet he was the driving force behind the legislation that created the Land Grant Colleges.  Not an easy task.

The Homestead Act was loaded with corruption, but it gave new life to immigrants and to poor people, thanks to Andrew Jackson.  It’s never easy.

Building the Panama Canal took a strong person like Teddy Roosevelt to overcome all those problems including a little revolution in Panama.  Not so easy.

FDR wanted rural America to have the convenience of electric power like the major cities enjoyed.  It was not easy convincing power companies to light up the farms.

Cold War GI Bill was created and it helped me complete my PhD at the University of Michigan.  It helped millions of vets to achieve a college degree.

The Interstate Highway System is the heart of America’s infrastructure and the source of great changes in our history.  Thanks to Dwight Eisenhower.

Now, the Obama Health Reform Plan will fit into the most important events in US history.  It will not be easy.  It must be done.

This is not a Republican task.  It’s not a Democratic task.  It is an American task.

It must be done right away because all people need good health care right now.

Robert Wesolowski
